Automotive Basics

August 23 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Free

Join us at Good Carma Auto Repair for our very first hands-on workshop where we’ll demystify the basics of car care in a chill, supportive space. No shame, no jargon overload, and absolutely no pressure to “already know this stuff.” Whether you’ve never opened your hood before or you’re just looking to build confidence, we’ve got you. Join your peers in learning about your car while having drinks on us!

This 90-minute class is designed for anyone who’s ever felt talked down to at a repair shop, Googled “is pink fluid bad?” at 2am, or just wants to feel a little more in control behind the wheel.

🔧 What We’ll Cover:
🧍 “How to Pop Your Hood Without Panic”
Let’s start with the basics — literally.
– How to find the hood release
– Understanding the prop rod or hydraulic struts

👀 “What’s Under the Hood?”
A no-shame, guided tour of what lives in your engine bay.
– Major parts: oil cap, battery, dipstick, coolant reservoir, belts, etc.
– What’s safe to touch vs. what to leave to the pros

🚨 “Warning Lights Decoded”
Don’t panic — just learn what your dash is trying to say.
– Common dashboard lights and what they actually mean
– When to pull over vs. when to just book a visit
– Why “Check Engine” isn’t always a crisis

💧 “The Basic Fluids”
Because your car needs hydration, too.
– How to locate and check oil, coolant, washer fluid
– Colors, smells, levels: what’s normal and what’s not
– What low fluids might be telling you

😬 “Emergency Confidence”
If your car quits, you don’t have to.
– What to do if your car overheats or won’t start
– Creating an action plan
– Who to call for help

🔁 “What is Maintenance, Really?”
Let’s decode service schedules and why they matter.
– Maintenance vs. repair: what’s the difference?
– How often do you really need service?
– What if you’ve skipped stuff? (No judgment!)

🎧 “My Car Sounds Weird!”
Spoiler: you’re not imagining it.
– Common noises and what they might mean
– How to explain sounds without feeling silly
– Why noticing things early is a superpower

This workshop is beginner-friendly, judgment-free, and designed to help you feel empowered, not overwhelmed. Come curious, leave confident.
